The Storm Begins - Last Words by Cloister The Storm Begins - Last Words by Cloister
An illustration made for the sake of improving my portfolio. I used photoshop. Nothing fancy. Worked mostly in one layer and with one simple brush. Used some custom brushes for the clouds and some texture to give it a bit of atmosphere.
I have a little story in my head for this one... but I think I'll let you make up your own.

Ooooooooh can I use this as the picture to illustrate an ancient war in the introduction of my story?! :D

The thing here is that they only leave the palace to parlay... and if anyone finds this secret valley they have to pass the mountains and hills and loose a lot of troops on that jorney. Or... the reason is beyond any of us... ;)

" AT LAST I HAVE COME TO SLAY YOU, MORTAL! "

" It is you who will be slain, fiend! "

" BY THE WAY MORTAL THAT WAS A PRETTY BAD IDEA, I MEAN, CONSTRUCTING A FORTRESS IN A HOLE RIGHT IN FRONT OF A HILL, THUS REMOVING ALL FORMS OF ADVANTAGES GIVEN BY HEIGHT AND ALLOWING MY ARCHERS TO FIRE ARROWS ON YOUR MEN COMING OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE FORTRESS, FORCING THEM TO MAKE A LONG, COSTLY CURVE IN ORDER TO REACH US RIGHT HERE!!! "

" Yeah... Now that I think of it I feel like I should have spent less gold on those statues up there and more on military strategists. "

" NOW THAT THIS IS DONE, ALLOW ME TO BEHEAD YOU. "

Looks like it's going to be a pretty rough game of Red Rover.

I had to look up Red Rover on Wikipedia... but now that I know what it is, yes, it very well could be... (but really, I happen to know, that for various reasons, the good guys are allowed to return into the stronghold before the actual attack begins... I will not tell you why, though)

A very noir deviation that reminds me of ancient paintings. Good job here. :D

The two main characters in this are wonderfully done in their own right, but I think some texture and detailing could be put into this to put a bit more balance into it. The castle definitely could use some stone textures, even if faintly, because it seems too smooth.

Thanks MeliHitchcock for the constructive feedback. I thought about stone-texture for the castle, but decided against it, because of its size. Any size of bricks would kind of fade away into nought at that distance... I suppose... and I think of the building as being made of marble... (you are definitely right about the size of the head in the other deviant, though...) Thanks!

The painting is amazing but what really caught my attentions was the demon on the horse. One of your best, certainly.
